Sports & Recreation
Everyone knows that Corpus Christi is great place to relax on the beach or play in the water, but we've also got everything you need to enjoy yourself while playing land-based sports on the Texas Gulf Coast. The Corpus Christi golf scene includes several high-quality courses in and around town. Tennis courts are also easy to find. These and other sports facilities give visitors enough recreation options that they might find themselves wondering just how to fit all the fun activities there are into one trip.
Golf the Gulf Coast
Corpus Christi features two excellent municipal golf courses, Lozano Golf Center and Oso Beach Golf Course. Both have been repeatedly voted among the best courses in the area by readers of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Lozano features both 18- and 9-hole courses and a lighted driving range, along with the usual amenities. The 18-hole course at Oso beach, meanwhile, has the advantage of being within walking distance of the water. Neither course requires reservations, though they are accepted. They also offer various specials on greens fees.
There are numerous country club golf courses in and around Corpus Christi. One of the most notable is the Padre Isles Country Club on North Padre Island. This rewarding links-style course makes the most out of its island setting, using water and the constant sea winds to introduce a British-Open-style challenge to the flat layout. Because of the difficulty involved in securing permission to develop land on the beautiful barrier islands of the Texas Gulf Coast, this golf course is the only one to be found North Padre Island and will likely remain so. Non-members are welcome to play.
Sports Fields, Tennis Courts, and More
The variety of recreation facilities in Corpus Christi is almost endless. Our city is home to Whataburger Field, the home field of the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team. In addition to hosting professional games, Whataburger Field offers a youth baseball field, facilities for group events and parties, a playground for children, basketball courts, a 27' high rock wall, a pool, and a trampoline.
Local college campuses also offer some sports facilities. Texas A&M Corpus Christi features a baseball field, softball field, a pool and racquetball courts. Texas A&M University Kingsville, meanwhile, has a football field that seats 15,000, a basketball court that holds 9,000 spectators, a pool, soccer field, and tennis courts.
Corpus Christi is also home to several bowling alleys, soccer fields, billiard halls, martial arts dojos, and community swimming pools open to the public. You can find further information by checking out the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation site!
