Launch Sites

There are lots of mapping services out there, we recently found South Texas Maps to be the most locally researched and detailed map in terms of up to date information in the Corpus Christi area. The launch sites are endless in the Coastal Bend especially with a kayak. The type of adventure you have in store, should dictate where you launch. Here are some suggestions.

Tip of Corpus Christi Beach on Corpus Christi Bay: Just over the Harbor Bridge, you’ll find Corpus Christi Beach. Exit Beach Street after passing over the bridge. Turn right onto Gulf Spray Avenue, drive to the end just past the restroom parking lot. Park right on the water’s edge and launch to the left of the jetty.

Cooper’s Alley L-Head, downtown Corpus Christi on Corpus Christi Bay: Take Ocean Drive to Cooper’s Alley L-Head in downtown Corpus Christi. Keep to the left, past the restrooms. Park in the parking lot and launch your kayak in the protected marina waters.

McGee Beach, downtown Corpus Christi: Along Shoreline Boulevard near Kinney Street, you’ll find downtown Corpus Christi’s urban beach, McGee Beach. Park along Shoreline Boulevard and launch from the beach located at the bottom of the concrete steps known as the Corpus Christi Seawall, which protects the city from flooding from hurricanes, tropical storms and other natural disasters.

Cole Park on Corpus Christi Bay: At Ocean Drive and Louisiana Parkway, you’ll find Cole Park, one of the largest city-owned parks in Corpus Christi, complete with a skating park, a fishing pier, an amphitheater and a large playground called Kid’s Place. This is also a fantastic launching point for kayakers. The launch point can be found next to the Marina del Sol condominiums along the shore.

Packery Channel Park on Upper Padre Island: The park entrance road is the last road to the right on Highway P22 before taking the causeway north leaving Upper Padre Island. Follow the road east past Playa del Ray to the water and stay to the left. Go north to the small boat launch ramp.

Padre Island National Seashore Bird Island Basin: Go south over JFK Causeway, continue straight past Highway 361 to Padre Island National Seashore. Jut past the entrance, turn right to Bird Island Basic. Park and launch anywhere along the Laguna Madre or at the boat launch ramp.

Snoopy’s on Upper Padre Island: Once you past JFK Causeway and enter Upper Padre Island, once you exit the bridge, take a right and stay to the left. You’ll see Snoopy’s Restaurant parking lot. Nearby, you’ll spot a boat launch ramp at Mile Marker 37.

Gulf of Mexico on Upper Padre Island: Pass over JFK Causeway and continue straight past Highway 361 toward the Padre Island National Seashore. Turn left onto a beach access road and follow the road to the beach. You can park and launch from any point on the beach.

Hazel Bazemore State Park on the Nueces River: Take Highway 37 from Corpus Christi. Take Highway 77 South. Turn right on Farm Road 624 at Five Points intersection in Calallen. Turn right on Canal Road to enter Hazel Bazemore. Follow the road down to the river boat launch ramp.
